Telecommunications giant and smartphone manufacturer Huawei has successfully tested a future standard of WiFi that can hit speeds of 10.5Gbps- which is about 10 times faster than your average WiFi router.
The new WiFi connection is labelled 802.11ax, and should replace current-gen 802.11ac connectivity routers by 2018, according to Huawei’s estimates. The widespread availability of these routers highly depend on having devices like tablets and smartphones with matching 802.11ax-capable chipsets ready by then.
Many WiFI networks in developed countries currently employ 5GHz band connections, which is still better than many countries here in Asia and other developing parts of the world. What makes Huawei’s future technology so smart, is to more efficiently juggle data from multiple antennas and by allocating data across the wireless airwaves better.
Huawei even cut back on the inteference from other signals and the new connectivity tech does not need to tune into higher frequencies to achieve the much faster speeds.
While these super-fast routers are still a few years away, an updated 802.11ac connection is expected to be available by 2015 which should be able to reach speeds of 7Gbps.
